Austin Film Festival’s 6th Annual Film & Food Charity Party
Wednesday, October 15, 2008
7PM-10PM, Driskill Hotel

http://www.emblemcreative.com/trina/aff/FoodandFilm.html

Tickets are $85, Sponsorships start at $250 (2 Tickets & 2 Film Passes to AFF)
All proceeds from ticket sales, sponsorship and silent auction benefit Austin Film Festival’s Young Filmmakers Program with programs at local area high schools, Dell’s Children’s Hospital and AFF’s Summer Film Camp for students age 9-17. Chefs from 20 of Austin’s hottest restaurant will be there preparing and serving food, drinks will be flowing all night long, and there will be a great silent auction including art, fine dinners and an adventure to one of Texas’ largest bat caves. More information: 512-478-4795 and ask for Kristen. Must be 21+.

Schliefke is a hater so he won’t do it, but he will be doing his part to derail the gentrification of the East side by releasing his comic book and letting you have a whack at the piñata he had made of the superhero in it. The superhero is not to be construed in any way as a manifestation of Schliefke himself. Wednesday night at Rio Rita.

Shannon Soule, who did her first solo show at the AFG is in the news. Show at the Capitol happens at noon on Monday Sept 22th at the Capitol building, for free. Shannon is wildly talented beyond her years, and hard working. You should go see this.

Also, our enablers at the Art Alliance Austin have this opportunity for you;

First off there’s new Kanevsky stuff up on his site that proves Connie Miller wrong about the possibility of making interesting paintings of waves;

http://www.somepaintings.net/waves/Waves.html

.
Thursday night is a group show that I’m in with the overly-talented Charles Randolph at the Cardinal Condos;

http://eventful.com/austin/events/cardinal-condos-group-art-show-/E0-001-015533096-1

The paintings I did that are on the cover and centerfold of the Farfelu magazine http://farfelumagazine.com/ are up in there.
.
Friday night the Austin Photography Group will hold their show at the AFG. They’re calling it “A View From Within.”

http://do512.com/event/2008/09/19/a-view-from-within

There will be horse doovers.
.
Friday is also Carroll Collier’s show at Gallery Shoal Creek

http://www.yelp.com/events/austin-gallery-shoal-creek-celebrates-texas-painter-carroll-colliers-in-special-exhibition

His family is very important to me, and he’s a lovely painter.
.
Saturday night Chris Chappell and I will be plying our wares at the AFG, saturating the market like we do.

http://do512.com/event/2008/09/20/chappell-ohlerking-paintings-photography

If you don’t come out to our show we will burn all of Schliefke’s paintings, send him to law school, needlessly water our lawns, and say hurtful things to puppies. You think about that for a minute.
.
Chappell is all out and proud with his embracement of the pastel lifestyle. Look for the new ENVY Magazine interview with him where he brazenly admits his shameful secret in print, right out there in front of God and everybody;

http://www.envymags.com/

Although I maintain that this is learned behavior, Chappell believes he was just born that way.
.
There is still time to enter the Paris Hilton show;

http://do512.com/event/2008/10/04/manifest-union-paris-hilton-08-show

.
And to enter the Self Portrait Show;

http://www.yelp.com/events/austin-self-portrait-show-painting-call-for-entries

.
Last of all Schliefke is all set to hurt the world’s feelings again over at Rio Rita.

This first run of the comic books includes 4 (count them) 4 typos. These will be fixed in successive printings. This is a simple ploy to give added value to the first run as a collector’s item, like the Beatles “Butcher” cover. Tricky way to get you to buy 2 copies. Don’t fall for it. In fact don’t buy any of his stupid comic books, it’ll just encourage him to make more.

Austin State Hospital’s Bash. 9.09.08

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

From www.austinartstart.com:

Many of you have heard me speak about the BASH event coming up in November. Now is the time to think about donating a piece for this cause. The Austin State Hospital has a cutting edge art education and therapy program that seeks to involve local artists, and to facilitate therapy for the patients. I have been organizing the annual fundraiser for the Volunteer Services Council this year. I have spent a lot of time interviewing the instructors, directors, the council, and the educators for this purpose, and I have been struck by their great work, their great need, and the lack of awareness in the community about ASH.

Please consider donating a piece to the Auction or if you know of anyone who would like to donate financially, or with art, please forward the attached documents along. Many of the former patients of ASH have gone on to become professional artists and continue to donate time and services as a thank you for the work being done there.

A little quick info on the financial need: Texas ranks 47th or 48th in mental health spending per capita usually behind Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. The Austin State Hospital serves 44 counties and over 4,500 people a year including children.
