artspam 3.24.08
Sorry to beat you down with the emails. I accidentally sent the last one out as Artspam, but so much has happened that I need to do a new one anyway. Tonight is Amanda, nothing tomorrow at the gallery because of the contending Laura’s show, Wednesday is the portrait deal. Cuss me quietly if you must, but read this,
1. The Austin Art Alliance wants us to do the Art After Dark thing like we did last year. Which means painting outside during an ultra fancy art party at the festival. Email me if you want in on this. It extremely fun and great publicity and the snacks rule. It happens the evening of April 12th. You can paint on whatever you want. Bring your own everything. I think we’ll be painting fashion models wearing clothes from local clothing stores.
2. Tim from the Octopus Club wants us to do a similar painting demo at their Arterotica event on April 19th. Similar deal as the above one, but the snacks are delivered with a lot more pomp (read; sparklers and buttfloss.) Worthwhile cause and a wild party. Email me if you want in on this.
3. The Abstracted Figure Paintings show on April 5th is still open to any of you who are brave enough to mess up a figure to the point of it almost not being a figure anymore. Email me if you want in. Look at this link if you want to know how abstracted your figure should be http://do512.com/event/2008/04/05/abstracted-figure-paintings All the cool kids are doing this show, even Cristina Coupal who doesn’t even know it yet.
4. My friend Lisa has a new art gallery that features art made from garbage. You know, like recycling. My hippie roommate will love this. I’m giving Lisa one of the crack hos I painted on cardboard to get in touch with my inner green-ness. (I’ll have to ask at the next vast conspiracy meeting if it’s OK for me to be green.) If you want to submit things for her store email her at lisaelectric [at] hotmail [dot] com The store is on South First by End of an Ear and that tricky false motorcycle cop.
5. I blame Ray Umscheid for this one. My friend Sydney traded paintings with me. I got a cool painting of a horse from her and I told her I’d paint whatever she wanted me to paint. She said she wanted a painting of Hannah Montana. So I’m painting Hannah Montana. That kid has Dolly Parton on her show so I’m ok with her. Anyway Ray thought it would be funny to do a whole show of Hannah Montanas. It’s such a ridiculous idea we have to do it. If you want in on this one email me. It’ll be a couple of months away and I’m gonna try to find a Hannah Montana cover band to play at the opening. Hopefully Trish Murphy. We’ll dress her up and everything. Or maybe dress up Ray. He can be one personality and Trish can be the other.
